Studying in Malta
I Knew You'd Read It!
This is my teacher Professor A with the CELTA course I'm taking. But I have another teacher--Mr. Louis--who is really good-looking.
But my luck. I had to email my teacher A about a paper we were doing. He apparently saw my blog address--yes, this blog--and read it. And told me he read it and liked it. So, how am I supposed to write anymore about the CELTA course and how I feel, etc., etc.?
He promised that he won't read it until after the course is over and the grades are posted. "So what do you think?" he asked. Right. He's British and goes..."Riiiiiiiiiiight" whenever he wants to change the topic.
So what do I think, Prof A? You're so vain, I bet you think this blog is about you........Now we'll see if he keeps his promise and doesn't read it.
It's halftime with the CELTA--and here's what I've done:
-Taught six classes.
-Got just a passing grade to standard--not above standard--as everyone else got, I think.
-Cried three times--once in the street, once in classroom with other students--no other teachers there. And one time somewhere just for luck.
-Comforted two other women crying--one in class in front of the teacher; one just in front of us CELTA students.
-Developed a severe case of public bathroom phobia because the toilets in the school don't flush. Here I am in the most prestigious English-language school in Malta and one of the best in the world, actually, and I watch as the secretary has to take a bucket into the bathroom because the toilets won't flush.
-Passed my first written paper. There are three more to go.
-Finally slept five hours in a row this weekend.
-Made some wonderful Maltese friends these past two weeks who I don't think I could ever live without now.
As for Professor A, well....I think I can live without you.

All you guys make me laugh! And I haven't done that for a while. So here's to you:
LYNNE, Yes, I could use some chocolate milk now--to wash down all the marzipan Mozarts I've been eating lately.
Hi WELSH ALAN, do I know you? Thanks for your support. You better not be Alan my teacher in disguise.
LYNDA, When all this over and we meet in Malta, I'll tell you things you wouldn't believe about this course. Regarding the toilets....today we women were told to use the men's room because the women's toilets had completely shut down. I couldn't stand it. There were closed stalls. But when I went in there today, I could hear a man peeing next door to my stall. And it took him so long--and I was terrified to come out to see who it might be. So I had to wait until he was finished and out of the bathroom. And then I was late to my class. (But the funny thing is that Professor Alan had just gotten to class right before me.....
Mary--We had no snow. But it's been freezing here. It's supposed to be one of the coldest winters in 85 years or so. Thanks for your tale about your teacher. Guess what? Of all days, Alan asked me if I'm still writing my blog. I said, "I knew it. I knew you'd read it." And he absolutely denied it. Well, I'm ready to sue the school if I fail.
Hey there MARY girl again, thanks for the update on President's Day and Obama. I feel quite out of touch with the American news right now. I sat on the remote and all I get now is the East Enders on BBC and Animal Planet. Yeah, Alan, leave me alone.
Hi STEVE--thanks for the vote of confidence. I love your British humor.

Ilene,
Happy President's Day!!! Lincoln's 200th birthday was the 12th. Of course was a big deal in the States because of all the Obama connections: Illinois, the inaugural bible, freeing slaves, speech maker, etc. He was rated by noted historians at the best ever President. G. Washington was #2, then FDR, T. Roosevelt, and Truman. Buchanan is in last place and GW Bush was 36th I believe. Interesting. I went online to MSNBC to see the whole list, which they said was posted there, but couldn't find it. I was interested to see where they place Van Buren since he's our local native. Even though he was #8 in order, he was the first native born Pres. My bit of teaching for today. Again, relax, be well and go with the flow. Whether you ace or pass that class is not fatal and in the scheme does mean a rat's ass. So Alan, leave her alone.

You go girl!!! I did a similar thing to thing in high school to my Social Studies teacher. He gave us gobs and gobs of long written assignments. He was a lazy person (never left his seat at the desk and just read to us)so I believed he never read any of the assignments. I wrote the first page and on the back of it told him I didn't think he ever read the stuff we wrote, but that if he did, my goose was cooked. Then I stapled a bunch of math papers to it. I never heard word one from him and continued to get my A's + and -. So, I'm sure you'll do fine. Question. Did you have any snow this winter? I know they did on the Canary Islands, in Italy where they usually don't and several snow storms in Madrid-all very unusual. Relax and be well.

Very funny Ilene. Course sounds an emotional rollercoaster, do they really cry and what causes it? The work, the teacher? So is Alan a jerk or a nice guy? I know you wont have time to answer these questions as you'll be busy, studying, sleeping, and flushing toilets. How bad is that, toilets that don't work, I don't think I could cope.

You scared me as email update came and I thought you were talking about me:( Where's my blood pressure pills? I'm sure you'll do fine whether he looks or not. Meanwhile this Alan (Welsh Alan) supports you:)
Take care,

Poor Gaverit!
Wish I was there to comfort you and bring you chocolate milk!
How about if you start a new blog and don't put a link to it anywhere in public? You could save that one just for writing about annoying teachers - especially ones named ALAN!
