Please Take me Back to Malta

You won’t believe how much a little snow can stop a big, powerful country like England. I’m in Petersfield, about an hour southwest of London. This is not a photo of Petersfield, but it might as well be.
I miss Malta. I know I have it a lot better than many people. But I just want to complain for a moment, OK? I can’t walk a few miles a day like I’m used to doing. I already fell flat on my face in the street. Of course, someone had to come out of his house to ask if I was OK.
I just feeling like eating chocolate and staying under a blanket. And I’m getting fat from indulging myself in these sinful ways.
What makes me mad is that nobody here knows what to do. Some salt thrown on the ice would help a lot. But nobody is doing it. We don’t have any in my mum-in-law’s house—or we would do it.
I miss Malta. I miss the sun, the streets with no snow or ice and my Maltese friends who complain about everything in the world—except snow. There has never—to my knowledge—been snow in Malta. (Yes, there is hail, but not snow and ice that stays on the streets for weeks).
Anyway, I want to thank all of you loyal readers. I love your comments. I can’t answer long, detailed letters—sorry about that. But stay with me through my next year in Malta, inshallah.
And I wish each of you reading a good holiday and a very happy and healthy New Year. (By the way, I hate New Year’s). But you have a good time.

Hi Mr. S., for whom--may I ask--will you be checking out the chrome as an antidote for chocolate cravings?--Ilene

Hi Eagle,
that is a really interesting lead !The theory behind the chrome helping against choc craving is plausable and , as they are not that expensive, well worth a try! I would combine them with another yeast product like Hefeweizen to intensify the results-)))
I will check out the availability of chrome tablets in Malta when I'm back.

Works but you need to take a higher dosage 200-600 micrograms than the daily recommended dose.
Good luck

Was -26C a few days ago where I am, in Switzerland. Cant wait to move to Malta.
Hate the cold as well. Ilene you should try a chromium supplement for the sugar craving. + Zinc and magnesium.
Happy Holidays

Fagetaboutit!! Look at the bright side. The snow could be a lot deeper, like in VA, and that would take a lot longer to melt. Rather bizarre, this. Here in the northeast, taking care of snow is no problem, but did we get any recently? No. Still a little on the ground, but not pretty and fluffy like new snow. Crunchy top. We leave for VT in a little bit. They have SNOW!!! Like a couple of feet. Happy New Year Ilene and Merry Christmas to all who celebrate it, including your in-laws. Cheers!!

Dear Ilene, If you think it's bad in England, come over the canal and join the trafic infarct in the Netherlands.
Here, they aren't capable of controling the railway, the busses, nor the trafic. The only thing the covernment is telling us the last week is to stay at home, because the roads are blocked, the trains don't go neither do the busses. The Dutch are always longing for a white Christmas, but our infra structure can't cope with it.
Have a nice time in good old Britain and hope to see you again in 2010.
Oh and by the way, avoid chocolate, try scones and clotted cream. This year I had to made the real clotted cream myself, because i can't reach the only store in our country where they sell it!
Love from Peter and me,
Willy

If you are still there, try the George Pub in town. Used to be pretty good as I remember from 30 years ago.
