Actually, it was an Eagle
The greatest thing about this blog is the people I meet through it.
The other evening Mr. S and I met the infamous blog commentator known as Eagle. This is not his real name and I am not allowed to give any details about his true identity. But he is moving to Malta soon and will be a true “mover and shaker” on our little island.
In fact, Eagle has invented a new drink (cocktail) in Malta. It’s called the Maltese Falcon—and there it is pictured above (in one of my favorite restaurant/bars in Malta—Bianco’s in St. Julian’s). The drink is made with vodka and something else. We will be waiting for Eagle to give us all the secret recipe.
Looking at the photo above with the delicate hand of yours truly posing with the Maltese Falcon, it looks like a very romantic evening, doesn’t it? Well. it might have been except for Eagle and Mr.S. sampling about 20 Maltese Falcons each—and then arm wrestling on the table.
Anyway, Eagle gave me much sought-after advice on how to write my blog by telling me to concentrate more on positive things in it. And I agree. So that’s the last I’m going to be saying about Mr. Eagle.
But wait until you hear about who I met next…

Thanks, Mr. Eagle!!! And please remember to not drink these while driving--Ilene

I am not a cocktail gal but my husband does like a wee slurp of vodka. Perhaps I will give it a shot as I am quite intrigued to see if anything can indeed make the prickly pear liquer consumable.
Lord that stuff is foul ! :)

ok original formula 2 shots vodka , 1 Bajtra a local Maltese liquer (prickly pear) ,shaken , 2 blocks of ice, serve in Martini glass.
May be a bit sweet for some, so as of today there is a new improved formula.
which equals 2 shots Absolut citrus vodka, 1 shot Bajtra, same procedure.
Enjoy and lets hear what you think of the new formula !

A bit behind everyone here! But I love it all, Positive, negative, funny. Always waiting for the next installment! BTW would like to know the other ingredient of the Maltese Falcon.

No need for apologies, Eagle! (by the way, I saw 2 of your namesakes here the other day - bald eagles - which is a very rare occurance in these parts!) I just feel that Ilene's writing about negative things also brings out her humor, and in the end she always reconciles with the situation in a nice way.

Isnt he cute? Thanks Eagle xxx Ilene

Apologies if i've ruffled a few feathers. To keep it
in perspective, I meant by negativity, is that I feel
sometimes Ilene sells herself short in the blog. After meeting
her and Mr S I discovered her wonderful personality
and asked her to bring more of that in, with a
balance on the negative and positive. And
myself personally having sampled too many
falcons. Ilene -- Do what you do and it was great
meeting you, and I guess you realized we could be
two difficult coconuts.

Hi Lynne--how could it be for 39 years? I'm only 35 now. Or is that my IQ? Cant remember. Maybe you, Mary and I will get together for some outdoor grilling someday xxx Ilene

Hi freezing Mary--thanks for your warm words. Of course, I have to do it my way. But lets not clip Eagles wings too much. He paid for a really nice dinner for Mr. S. and me; that counts as a very good character reference as far as Im concerned. And ask him--the next time hes here--what happened to his hat :-) xxxx Ilene

I agree - keep writing as you always have! You have great insight and a wonderful sense of humor that has had me laughing for 39 years! Keep up the great work!
And I agree with Mary - anything grilled outside is much tastier than the same being cooked indoors!

Ilene, I think Eagle mistakes your sense of humor for negativity. He must not be a Jewish-American. I think you've done really fine and would be happy to see you continue to be you. That's the you we all love. I hope other supporters will respond favorably as well. BTW, we finally got above freezing here for the last 2 days. However short lived it is, it was a welcome break. So crazy am I that I grilled outside last night, with gloves and jacket. I must say those sausages tasted much better than when they are cooked inside. Be well and keep on keeping on.
