Watch Your Step…
and Your Hair in Malta
Road Rage and Death: I’ve often warned you about the drivers in Malta. Sometimes I’ve joked about it—but no more: Last Monday a Maltese woman was crossing in a pedestrian walk on Tower Road. She was run down and killed by a Maltese driver who cared less except for going as fast as he could. The Maltese have blamed the deceased victim for being in the pedestrian walk at the wrong time; no charges against the driver.
Fire! One of our German expats was in Club 22 (on the top floor of the Hilton Tower in St.Julian's) and her hair caught on fire from a candle. Luckily, her gorgeous curly locks were saved, but are just a little shorter. The club paid her for her emergency visits to the hairdresser. But upon last inspection, the Club still has the exposed candle in the same place.
The Malta Post—On a less serious, but still annoying note, do not mail packages or letters to the US (from Malta) with any special handling, such as registered mail or express. It slows the mail delivery down by at least a week or two. You’re better off saving the five Euros it costs for special handling and just mailing your stuff the regular way; it gets there faster.

Hi Jon--this is truly frightening. Each one of those drivers has to cross a street sometimes themselves. Very sad situation--Ilene

"The Maltese have blamed the deceased victim for being in the pedestrian walk at the wrong time..." - This seems to be the popular understanding amongst most of the drivers in Malta.
There's a bus race going on? Watch out!
